Pan Tilt not working with resolutions larger than 640x480

After setting the cam resolution higher than 640x480 the pan tilt is no longer working.

I searched the forum and found an old topic with the same problem, but no solution.

Has anybody a solution? Is it related to AbelCam or to Logitech SW?

Hope someone has an answer.

If your camera is an older model ("Sphere MP" or just "Sphere") then the Logitech hardware does not allow pan/tilt at resolutions > 640x480. See article at THIS LINK.

WAIT....! I have a QuickCam Orbit MF AND a QuickCam Orbit AF.
Both work perfectly at 320X240. ANYTHING higher (specifically 640X480) and the PTZ is unreliable. Cry The AF is camera 0 and has the most problems. It usually moves side to side just a little. If you play and try to move it full left and right a few times it may travel the full distance but that is no guarantee. MundsPark.gotdns.org

I'm wondering what Frame Rate you are using in AbelCam. My reason for asking is this: these Logitech cams do some mysterious internal stuff to limit their bandwidth consumption. If the video is using "too much" USB bandwith it's conceivable that PTZ control could suffer.

I've also run into cases (usually when there are several cams on a USB hub) where the port's bandwith maxes out. Yeah, USB 2.0 claims 400mbps but in the real world it seldom actually delivers it.

Also... is the PTZ problem only happening with AbelCam? What happens if you open the cam up with AmCap (or something) and use the Logitech app to move the PTZ?

Who would have thought...... Roll Eyes
The frame rate on cam 1 (Orbit MP) was set at 5. Frame rate on cam 0 (orbit AF and the one haveing the most problems with PTZ) was set at 2. Changed the frame rate on cam 1 down to 2 and everything is working OK so far.

THANKS !!! Frin

Jack, you might also want to go into Device Manager and have a look at the Properties for each cam. On the Properties dialog there should be a tab called Bandwith, and on it are a few settings to play with. I don't have a great explanation for what they actually do, except that they affect the way the cam/driver determine what "too much" bandwith is. I've had some luck in the past twiddling those settings to improve performance. Might help?
